We are open for more donations to support Afghan families

Thank you!

We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone for their incredibly generous and kind donations to support Afghan refugee families on 20 and 21 January. Wow! We were absolutely blown away by the response. It’s so heart-warming to see Fitzrovians and neighbours further afield coming together to show support for the newest members of our community.

So far, we have distributed items to 28 families with 93 children. They asked us to extend their thanks to you all, they were overjoyed. And we were so happy to see some of them using your scooters and buggies to come into our Centre to join in our activities last week. We call that a success!

We couldn't have done it without our volunteers and Trustees who helped with the mammoth task of sorting the items and preparing them for distribution. What an amazing team effort!

Your cash donations are being put to good use, buying ingredients for the families to enjoy the comfort of home-cooked traditional Afghan food at the Centre. It’s the first time many of our families have eaten their own cuisine since they moved here last autumn, and for others, these cooking sessions have been the first time they have gone outside from their hotels.

Sadly, there are still a lot of families that we haven’t yet been able to help and we are organising another donation day on Thursday 10 February, 10am-8pm. A list of the items we are collecting this time is below. If you have already donated, please help us spread the word.

Thank you all so much, you’ve made a huge difference!

  • Trips to London Zoo

  • Trips to local areas so they can get used to travelling on buses and trains

  • Santander bike sessions

  • Organising sewing classes

  • Self-care days
